The Sea Tribe people at the Barelang-Galang Baru Bridge end receive services from the Indonesian Christian Church (JKI) which include spiritual guidance, education, and community behavior. Currently, JKI has reached 5 islands, namely Tereh, Air Ingat, Jelutung, Pasir Panjang, and Mentigi.
Building spiritual community involves teaching people the truth of God’s Word through daily Bible study (PA) and prayer fellowship (PD). On Sundays, encouraging community members to participate in spiritual service by taking on roles during worship—for example, singing, serving communion, or assisting ministers in sacraments.
For the broader community, development occurs through family-by-family environmental nurturing. Providing basic literacy resources, such as simple libraries and learning centers, opens people’s eyes to the wider world. Collaborating on free eyeglasses distribution and basic health check-ups primarily benefits the Malay population in the vicinity.
From 2015 to 2023, several infrastructure projects have been undertaken, largely supported by generous donors. Notable developments include constructing church facilities and pastor residences on Tereh Island, establishing equipment warehouses, homes for learning, and places of worship on Air Ingat Island, and creating church facilities and residential spaces in Jelutung and Pasir Panjang.
